New Kitten Shopping List

1. Premium Kitten Food >

Give your kitten the best start possible with premium kitten food full of top quality nutrition and high in essential protein.

Royal Canin’s Kitten food range is carefully formulated to meet the needs of young cats from weaning to maturity.  BabyCat 34 is for ages 1-4 months . The easy to chew kibble simplifies the transfer from milk to solid food during the “withdrawal” phase.  Kitten 36 is designed for ages 4 – 10 months and is also a suitable feed for pregnant and nursing female cats.

2. Kitten Litter & Litter Box >

We recommend World’s Best Cat Litter for young kittens that may still be tempted to take a bite out of their litter.  It’s a natural product which is safe when ingested – it’s also gentle on delicate paws.

Small kittens may not be able to climb into an adult cat litter tray and can sometimes be a bit scared of a dark enclosed box so something like our open Cat Litter Tray Coba C (left) which is only 12 cm high and is available in blue, green or red.

3. Kitten Scratch Post or Cat Tree >

All cats feel a primal urge to scratch so it’s a good idea to get your kitten used to scratching on specially designed ‘cat furniture’ while she is young.  Cats scratch to mark territory and to ‘whet’ their claws, removing old layers of nail to reveal the sharp points underneath.

Our Scratching Post Wicky is perfect for youngsters.  Tiny kittens can still have fun hiding in the lower archway and using the lower scratch pads.   Before long she’ll be jumping up onto the plush covered platform and batting the fluffy ball too!

4. Food & Water Bowls >

Another basic essential for your kitten will be a sturdy set of bowls for food  and water.  Materials like ceramic and stainless steel are easy to clean and will last a long time.

Make mealtimes extra fun for your kitten with our fun Bon Appetit Kitten Starter Set which includes a cute little ceramic bowl, cartoon cat placemat (to help minimise mess on the kitchen floor) and 6 x 100g premium quality Cosma Thai wet food pouches as a supplementary food to make your kitten’s dinner extra appetising. Yummy!

5. Grooming Brush >

Particularly important for long haired cats, getting your kitten used to regular brushing in the early days will help her accept it as part of her routine.

Grooming is a great way to bond with your cat (as long as you are gentle!) and is also a perfect time to give your kitty a once over, checking for any lumps, bumps, cuts or grazes which might need attention.

6. Kitten/Cat Bed >

Although some cats choose to sleep elsewhere (usually your bed or the sofa!) if you would like your cat to later stay in their own bed, introduce a cosy and inviting little nest bed to your kittens from the beginning.  A snuggly, plush fabric bed like the Trixie Cuddle Bed Leo will be a sure hit!

.

7. Kitten Toys >

Playing games with your kitten is an important part of the bonding process with your new pet.  Time spent interacting with your cat at this stage will help her be more accepting of human contact and handling as an adult.

In our Kitten Toys section you’ll find feather wagglers, colourful soft balls and the Kong Kickeroo Kitten which was designed especially for young cats bursting with energy!  It’s soft body and plush tail make it the perfect target for hunting and stalking practice.
